Weston General Hospital – External Works (Phases 1&2)

Project Summary.

Client – University Hospitals Bristol & Weston Trust
Client’s Representative – Edmond Shipway
Value – £1.65m
Programme – 65 Weeks

These works consisted of the external refurbishment of Weston General Hospital – including the replacement of the existing fascia, soffit and concealed gutter installation utilising a specialist Alumasc prefabricated system. The works also included elevational decorations to the existing windows, doors & external steel framing.

Our Phase 1 works were logistically the most challenging as all works were centred around seven internal courtyards of the main building. All scaffolding materials had to be carefully transited through live hospital circulation areas, inside and outside of normal working hours. These works were specifically programmed to suit the live ward & clinical spaces immediately adjacent to the courtyards
Once all scaffolding was constructed, our works were contained within the individual courtyards. Works were then carefully managed as all materials and labour also had to move through live environments.

Due to the success of phase 1 works, Creative were then appointed on a negotiated basis to complete Phase 2 of the project for the remaining areas of the hospital site.

Our Phase 2 works commenced in September 2022, taking in the flank and rear elevations of the Main Building, along with ancillary corridors and the Estates Building, which is currently firmly on programme and due for completion by Summer 2023.
